So...
Avatar.
Will Cameron prove he hasn't wasted ten years* ...
So far reviews are stunning (except the Gruniad - and the reviewer has previously stated he doesnt like SF much) so it looks like Cameron may have pulled it off - certainly from an SF fans point of view ....

Going on Saturday locally and looking forward to it ... For me Its been a good year with both Watchemen and Star Trek not letting me down - lets see how this does ...
**ETA** ok so he has been involved in other stuff, but also has put a lot of r&d time into Avatar - for me its a lot about the tech as well as the film ...

Just watched the Batty Man documentary on channel four. Comedian and actor Stephen K Amos uses his own experiences as a black gay man to explore why homophobia still exists in his own community.
He talks to black adults and kids in Brixton and Tooting. The open and indeed proud homophobia has shaken and shocked me. Yes - I live in a comfortable straight middle classed life style, I'm not deluded in that respect, but I dont give a shit about race, gender or age and the things they were saying about killing gays and the fact the music and it seems Caribbean culture encourages this behaviour well - its disgusting. Please someone reasure me this was an editoral bias.
I really can not believe the open hostility all these kids were showing (The Adult's wouldnt have suprised me but these were teens).
There's a friend of mine well known in the fan community who I won't name - but if you are seeing any of this shit and its affecting you - well come see us for an ear.

They are still filming and will complete and show all 13 Episodes of the season but that would seem to be that for the getting better and better Dollhouse.

OK - Why did no one tell me how good Season 7 of Spooks was ... I'd have watched it ages ago otherwise - poor old Ben though - still no one is safe..
***ETA of course it has meant I have not had to wait a year to resolve the obligatory cliffhanger ;-) ***

Well - I've just worked out that I only saw episode 1 & 3 of Spooks season 7 then got sidetracked before the old Sky Box crashed. Guess what i'm mainlining the next two days ...

Well I have a DVD quality rip of 'That Movie' to tide me over until the blu ray comes out in November (the icon is a clue guys)...
This makes me happy. Huge hugs to the person who linked me to it ;-)
What sadly doesnt make me happy is the lichen planus resurgence which means i'm back on a course of Prednisolone over thirty days. These work but taking regular short courses means i get hit by rather bad side effects, which are getting worse every time - basically nausea, high blood pressure and acute mood swings (they are particularly bad with my particular chem related form of BP). I hit real lows and highs on these things too. So if you see me and I shout at you know why. I'm told there should be no lasting side effects after the course as long as I dont take more than two courses in a twelve month period.
Normal service will be resumed in four weeks or so.

Hmmm well they have started the new series with possibly the weakest episode they have done so far. Merlin is generally fun, but last nights grated a little ...
Don't get me wrong. I did enjoy it but the story just didn't ... Flow. I'd have been more forgiving for a mid season story but not a season opener.
Crook was frankly terrible and it seemed a baddly put togeather way of managing three things:

Did the LOTR all nighter at the IMAX last night.
It started at Midnight and finished at 10:30 am.
Also met up with peeps and did Time Travellers Wife first.
Have been offically useless since getting home at midday and suspect I will have to sleep shortly.
This sort of thing used to be easy for me ....
